Paris Museums
Among the numerous famous museums of Paris Louvre certainly is the must. Thousands of works of art by great artists of the world including the most popular Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and the Venus de Milo statue.
The Louvre has other exhibits including archeology, history, and architecture.
The Louvre was expanded and reorganized under the “Grand Louvre” project and reopened in 1989. The architect I.M. Pei designed a magnificent glass pyramid at the centre of the palace.
Recently the Louvre has drawn attention of thousands of readers becoming setting for bestseller “The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Drown.
If you are interested in modern art you should visit the Centre Georges Pompidou which is also a cultural centre with a large public library. The building design has been described as "an oil refinery in the centre of the city". It was opened in 1977 and named after Georges Pompidou who was president of France from 1969 to 1974. Te museum has 50,000 works of art representing such art movements such as Fauvism, Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism.
Musée d'Orsay offers a beautiful collection of Impressionist works of art. Housed in a redesigned railway station known as Gare d'Orsay. There you will find works by Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh.
